Diabetes is a chronic life-threatening condition in which the amount of glucose in the blood is too high. Before people develop type 2 diabetes, they almost always have "prediabetes"—blood sugar levels that are higher than normal but not yet high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. The HbA1c test measures the average blood sugar for the past two to three months. However, in South-East Asia the high prevalence of hemoglobin variants often have significant biological interference on most commercially available HbA1c assays. The so called "true" HbA1c assay by SEBIA capillary electrophoresis (CE) overcomes this challenge and provides "clear-cut" separation and reliable results.
